NISHKA HAJELA

Nishka joined the firm in 2026 as a legal assistant. She most recently served as a Client Advocate on the Conditions of Confinement Project at the Center for Appellate Litigation. In this role, she conducted client-facing advocacy on behalf of incarcerated individuals across New York State. Her work focused on issues including medical negligence, violations of solitary confinement law under the HALT Act, violence, assaults, harassment, and access to basic needs in prison. 

Nishka earned her B.A. in Sociology and Spanish from Wake Forest University, where she engaged closely with the criminal legal system through research on probation and social control, judicial discretion, courtroom culture, and community surveillance. Her experience includes court observation in the Forsyth County criminal courts and the Charlotte immigration courts, as well as collaboration with Wake Forest University School of Law to analyze media coverage of a murder trial in support of a death row appeal under the North Carolina Racial Justice Act.
