ELIZABETH FELBER, ESQ.

Elizabeth Felber comes to Hiles Hoffman with years of trial, appellate and wrongful conviction experience as both a state and federal defender. Her passion for criminal defense began in Barry Scheck’s criminal law clinic at Cardozo School of Law. One of her proudest outcomes was the acquittal of a sixteen-year-old charged with murder who, after twelve hours of threats and coercion, gave a twenty-minute false confession. For the last seven years of her career as a public defender, she created and led the Legal Aid Society’s Wrongful Conviction Unit, which has tripled in size since its inception, exonerated three men to date, and helped to free several men through parole advocacy. In her capacity as the head of the Wrongful Conviction Unit, she lobbied for policy changes to the state law governing postconviction hearings, advocating for postconviction discovery, expanded forensic testing, assignment of counsel, and the right to appeal. Elizabeth is thrilled to be joining the talented and passionate firm of Hiles Hoffman and looks forward to working to exonerate more wrongfully convicted men and women.
